Check The Competitions Inbound Links

As you come up with websites you want to compete with, quickly add them to your favories in a new folder so you can review them periodically. Once you have completed your list of competitiors, it is time to do a link check. In this step, you will find sites that are linking to your competitiors, and try to get them to link to you as well. So do a google search for the exact url of one of the websites in your list. For example, here is a link to a google search result for metasphere.net. Click the link that says "Find web pages that link to metasphere.net", highlighted in the image below.

The page returned will show every site that google can find with a link to metasphere.net. If you were trying to compete with metasphere.net, you would go to these sites and see if it were possible to get your site linked as well. Often this is a simple as filling out a form. Sometimes, it takes an email, or whatever hurdles created by that site's owner. Sometimes, it cannot be done, but you can also look at these sites as examples of sites you can search for to try to get more links to your site than your competition has to theirs (keeping our eye on the prize).
